The 2023 Taiwan Higher Education Fair kicked off at Kian Kok Middle School in Kota Kinabalu from March 27 to 28, 2023, followed by Sacred Heart Secondary School in Sibu, Sarawak from March 30 to 31, 2023. The Fair was organized and hosted by the Federation of Alumni Associations of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia (FAATUM) and its local branches. This year, the fair takes place in Kota Kinabalu, Sibu, Batu Pahat, Kuala Lumpur and Penang from March 27 to April 12, with 78 Taiwan universities participating.
Representative Phoebe Yeh of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Malaysia was invited to give a remark at the opening ceremony. She said that Taiwan and Malaysia have forged long and cordial relationships, especially in trade, investment and education. More than 100,000 Malaysian alumni have excelled in various fields and served as the bridge for enhancing the bilateral relationship between Taiwan and Malaysia.
She emphasized Taiwan’s amazing achievements in scientific research and practical application in the higher education field have been highly recognized by students from all over the world. With the increasing number of English-taught courses introduced in the universities and colleges in Taiwan and the government’s effort in establishing a Muslim-friendly environment, many international students are expanding their Taiwan experiences by either undertaking full-time degree courses or learning Mandarin in Taiwan.
Mr. Pang Thou Chong, the chair of the Taiwan Alumni Association of Sabah, highlighted Taiwan’s outstanding higher education system in his opening remark. He mentioned that there are currently more than 150 universities and colleges in Taiwan that offer academic programs that cover a wide array of disciplines and various courses for selection to suit students’ future career prospects.
Ms. Charlin Chang, the Education Director of TECO in Malaysia, was invited to the opening ceremony of the fair in Sibu Sarawak. She thanked and valued the organizer and participating universities on behalf of the Ministry of Education Taiwan for their hard work and effort to facilitate the event. She encourages students and parents to grasp the opportunity to obtain the latest information on undertaking further studies in Taiwan.
The fair gained an overwhelming response from the local schools and leaders and was well-reported by the local press.
