The 2024 Sarawak and Brunei Taiwan Higher Education Fair co-organized by the Sarawak Taiwan Graduates Association and Taiwan Graduates Association of Brunei, took place in Brunei, Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, and Sarikei, from March 18 to 24, providing locals with up-to-date information on studying in Taiwan.
Representative Vanessa Ya-ping Shih of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei Darussalam thanked the organizers for holding the Taiwan Higher Education Fair in Brunei. She mentioned that Taiwanese universities have been promoting internationalization by offering programs taught in English, making it an attractive destination for international students seeking high-quality education with reasonable tuition fees and living cost. She welcomed students who are keen to expand their knowledge and career in the related industry to study in Taiwan.
YB Adam Yii Siew Sang, the Mayor of Miri City in Sarawak received a courtesy visit from the Education fair delegation. He mentioned that Sarawak is known for its multiracial community comprising up to 31 ethnic groups. Strengthening bonds between different ethnic groups requires mutual understanding and respect. He believed that the Taiwan Alumni associations introducing students with excellent Taiwanese education will offer more options for local students to further study and also help learn and preserve Chinese culture in local society.
Ms. Charlin Chang, Director of the Education Division of TECO in Malaysia expressed appreciation to the organizers and participating universities on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. Aside from its placement 6th among 64 economies according to the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2023, Taiwan has gained popularity among international students due to abundant human resources and higher education.
“Taiwanese universities offer a wide range of fields up to 2154 programs and numerous interdisciplinary and innovative programs, providing students with ample choices to pursue their academic interests. In addition, the Industry-Academia collaboration programs in Taiwan enable students to receive tailor-made skill training in relative industries, creating employment opportunities after graduation.” said Chang
Mr. Siew Tick Chai, Chair of the Sarawak Taiwan Graduates' Association and Mr. Chen Fu Rong, Vice President of Taiwan Graduates Association of Brunei said that with its world-renowned academic offerings, relatively affordable costs, and similar food and culture, Taiwan is definitely an ideal destination for both Sarawakian and Bruneian students to study abroad. They encouraged students to take this opportunity to look for information about the interested courses and inquire directly at the fair.
