Taiwan Higher Education Fair in Malaysia Provides Insight Into Study in Taiwan Opportunity

The 2024 Taiwan Higher Education Fairs organized by the Federation of Alumni Associations of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia (FAATUM) were held from April 23 to May 9 in Muar, Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Ipoh, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu. The fair was aimed to provide a platform for Malaysian students to explore the trending courses in Taiwan and uncover scholarship opportunities. There were representatives from 55 Taiwan’s reputable universities and colleges taking part in the fair to offer information on sought-after programs and study counseling.

 

Representative Phoebe Yeh delivered her remarks during the Education Fair in Kuala Lumpur, saying that more than 100,000 Malaysians have pursued higher education in Taiwan and excelled in different fields over the past seven decades. In order to allow Malaysian students financially feasible studying in Taiwan, a couple of educational institutions give away an abundance of scholarships and bursaries every year.

 

Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Tang Yong Chew, JP, the president of FAATUM, mentioned that the Education Fair this year was held in six cities in Malaysia. Taiwan is home to technology. As one of the leading global economies, Taiwan has contributed to the world's information and communications technology products. Moreover, Taiwan is renowned for its friendly locals and welcoming environment. He encouraged Malaysian students to enjoy high-quality education at relatively affordable tuition and living costs in Taiwan.

 

Madam Lim Peck Poh, the Chairman of the Council of SMJK Principals Malaysia, noticed that the number of local students pursuing their studies in Taiwan regardless of race and background distinctively is increasing in recent years. She saw it as a great opportunity to further strengthen bilateral ties between both sides in the educational and cultural exchanges. Taiwan and Malaysia share similar language and rich culinary traditions that complement each other. A comprehensive and efficient transportation network in Taiwan is also a plus point for foreigners. Therefore, she anticipated more students would further study in Taiwan in the future.

 

Ms. Charlin Chang, Director of the Education Division stated that Malaysia's economy is booming, and the demand for talent is the priority. The Budget 2024 announcement by Malaysia's Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim aimed at boosting technology and digital economy, manufacturing, electrical and electronics (E&E), and business sectors, and a large number of workforces in the relevant fields are indeed required. She emphasized that Taiwan has gained global recognition for its advanced technology industry, semiconductors, and chips manufacturing. Several prestigious universities host significant programs in technology and engineering disciplines, equipping students with practical knowledge and skills and satisfying the expertise needs in Malaysia. 

 

Furthermore, higher education in Taiwan is esteemed globally, and all the degree programs at Taiwanese universities are recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) under the Joint Statement of Confidence with the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT). She welcomed students to study in Taiwan to get involved in related professions that provide diverse career paths in industries.
